Skinny Dippers (from Brooklyn, NY) have released this year three strong singles, we already shared here their track “Wedding Ring” and now we’re enjoying the latest single “Night to Day”. All three tracks have very nostalgic, pleasant vibe and splendid production. And mostly they’re the best example of high-quality songwriting. We talked about these latest tracks with Ryan Gross, the singer and songwriter from the band.
You’ve already released three successful singles this year. Can we expect the whole album anytime soon?
Ryan: I’m going to tease everyone with a couple more singles then plan to drop the full 10 track album in August.
Your latest single is called “Night to Day”, did you record it at the same studio as your past two singles “Wedding Ring” and “Through Trying”?
Ryan: Yes! Night to Day is part of the full 10 track album that I recorded with my friends TOLEDO at their basement studio in Bushwick. I’m hoping to get back together with those guys and record more soon!
Your music is very melodic, I don’t know many bands with such catchy hooks to be honest! What is the writing process behind your songs?
Ryan: Thank you, I’m all about the catchy melodies! (I even joke about it being the only thing I care about in one of my unreleased songs).
Typically when writing a song I sit down with a guitar and start playing some chords or a lick that is interesting to me, then I hum/whistle/mumble a vocal melody part before coming up with words. This definitely puts a strong emphasis on making sure catchy melodic hooks are at the forefront of all my songs.
