Songs we love (+ interview): Shady Cove – Summer Days

If this is Shady Cove‘s first released song ever, I can’t really wait to hear the whole album. It seems that the Oregon duo already knows their music direction very well.

The track Summer Days has sort of Beach House-like atmosphere, but for me this is somehow more accessible and I can identify with the music better. I don’t usually pay that much attention to the lyrics, music usually comes first to me, but on Summer Days, Shady Cove creates very mesmerizing and fascinating images that elevate the track above others.

I see you on the rooftop
meet you there, I’ve got a secret
I’m a ghost and you are here so
when I fade out you can keep me

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Interview:

“Summer Days” is your first single, but it seems that you’ve already found your unique sound and expression, the song sounds very mature. Is this your first project or do you have more experience from other bands?

We have been playing music together since 2009. In the past we’ve written songs in a practice space, with all instruments at full volume just hashing it out live. With Shady Cove we approached song writing with a more stream-of-consciousness style, recording everything as we went and then building and editing and learning how to play the songs after the fact.

Can we expect a full-length album in 2022?

Yes! Later this year on Park the Van Records.

What are your other music plans for this year?

We are just excited to play shows and share the music we’ve been working on for the past couple years.

Do you write your songs together?

We definitely do and Shady Cove is the most collaborative project we’ve had yet.
