Songs we love: Melodic Canvas – Death Garden

Well, this has always been my favorite type of indie folk/slowcore and I think this will never change. Melodic Canvas is a Northern Michigan band and they released their debut in 2017. While they mix different genres like shoegaze and alternative rock on their previous songs, Death Garden from their 2021’s album Sterile is a pure slowcore gem.

And it’s perfect in every way, the simple, nostalgic instrumentation, sad, dreamy vocal with a lot of reverb… the whole song has very cinematic feeling and I could listen to it over and over. I can hear there artists like Mount Eerie, Red House Painters (I know, after the allegations I can’t listen to the guy anymore and he’s just a monster, but the music is still good, I guess…), Fog Lake, Owen… and this is just as good.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
