Jennifer’s brand new baby by Ohio singer-songwriter sam stansfield is a true bedroom pop/lo-fi gem. And it’s really genuine – recorded on cassette (I wonder if you could ever get such authentic sound with digital recording, I doubt it…!), this is that kind of lo-fi that people growing up on early Guided by Voices love. Raw, rough, dirty and with a lot of emotion and soul.
But it’s not only about the lo-fi sound, the songwriting here is incredible as well. If this tune appeared on gbv’s opus Bee Thousand, it would’ve been one of the catchiest tracks there, and that’s saying a lot. You can find the track on stansfield‘s new album extreme falcon (released last week) among 16 other lo-fi tunes!
