Albums we love: Carl and the Uncertainties – Writ Small

Carl and the Uncertainties is a bit mysterious music project to me. I haven’t found much information about the artist so let’s assume his name is Carl. The important information is that he’s just released his new (debut?) album Writ Small that consist of 9 songs. 9 beautiful songs that take you on an adventurous music journey.

When I first listened to his track Other People’s Lives, it was simply because of the name – the track of the same name by Modest Mouse is one of my most favorite tracks ever, so the name caught my attention right away. But of course, it’s nothing like Modest Mouse. This has very chill, psychedelic vibe that reminds me of an album by a legendary singer-songwriter Dave Bixby. Music that makes you want to smoke weed and ponder your life purpose.

Carl and the Uncertainties was created with the aim to rectify the difference between two of my previous disparate musical outlets: songwriting and ambient music. It was an effort to create the space where they could meet and coexist together,” says Carl about his album on Bandcamp, where you can listen to the whole thing.

Floating is another very slow pop song and it affirms Carl’s words with its psychedelic vibe and abstract compositions. This music just flows like a river.
