Songs we love: Friendly Faces – I Wanna Live in Europe One Day

Friendly Faces was one of the first bands that I wrote about here on Motel Void. You can read a very nice interview with Griffin, Cameron and Jakob here. We talked about Chicago DIY scene, their music inspiration, their characteristic artworks… well, really cool people, so check it out!

I fell in love with their last year’s singles and felt a strong affection to their lo-fi aesthetic. Now they’re releasing a new single/EP The Trucker including two singles. And it’s funny that one of them is called I Wanna Live in Europe One Day because Friendly Faces really doesn’t sound very American to me. I hear a lot of Syd Barrett’s influence in their music and their sound just feels very close to some other UK outsider lo-fi folk acts to me. I think it’s mostly because of their approach to the vocal melodies that feel very hazy and psychedelic…

To sum it up, Friendly Faces are definitely one of the most interesting lo-fi bands out there, so don’t sleep on their music! I’m already looking forward to hearing their new material…
