J. J. Summer is an alternative group consisting of Jim Harding and Summer Sprake. They’re from Portsmouth, UK, but to be truly honest, when I heard Chains for the first time, I felt a lot of US/Canada indie music influence for some reason (a bit darker Alvvays vibes?). At the same, that gloomy cover didn’t look exactly American:)
Chains is a banger, I love everything about this song, the vocal cooperation between Harding and Sprake is just beautiful and so natural, I also enjoyed those distorted (and slightly disturbing) synths, shoegaze guitars in the background, that addictive bass in the verses… I also love how quickly that catchy chorus shows up in the song.
My favorite part: Everything, but those melodies are superstrong…
