Songs we love: Louis Inglis – Muted Colours

Louis Inglis is a songwriter/songmaker/producer from Perth, Australia who combines charming, imaginative songs with vivid sonic textures and arrangements.

I must say this is another excellent portion of music from Australia. This continent is my absolute favourite when it comes to music production. I don’t know how they do it but they’re just really really good…:)

I was immediately intrigued by the intro of Muted Colours, which has a bit of an eerie vibe, reminiscent of Dave Bixby’s 60s folk music. I expected that the vocal in this track would be more buried in the mix but it was actually a nice surpise how it was towering over the instrumental part of the song, not in a bad way, I think this clear production of the vocal really fits the song. The melodies are both pleasant and melancholic, but mainly full of emotions that really strike hard. The song culminates in the last minute and brings a kind of catharsis to the listener.
