Songs we love: Panda Riot – Ultramarine

Panda Riot is a dream pop band from Chicago, Illinois, formed by Rebecca Scott (vocals, keys) and Brian Cook (drum machine, guitar) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania around 2005. Their music gives a nod to early 90s bands like My Bloody Valentine and The Softies. They’ve been releasing music and building their now quite large fanbase since 2006.

Their latest album called Extra Cosmic was released at the beginning of June and we are picking the song Ultramarine for Motel Void’s review:)

The instrumental part in this tracks refers to the heroes of the 90s, the rolling guitars are reminiscent of Slowdive or the aforementioned My Blood Valentine, the vocal plays the main role in this particular track, though. With its clarity and melodic approach it rather reminds of contemporary dream pop/indie rock bands such as Alvvays.

The whole song has a very positive vibe and if you are a fan of either classic or contemporary shoegaze/dream pop, this one will definitely make you happy.
