Free Lunch are a brotherly duo from Bournemouth, UK, consisting of Henry and Ted Scanlan. Prior to combining to form the band, the brothers released music separately under the solo guises of Sprog and Wilder. Since then, Free Lunch has grown to include an ever-expanding roster of friends and regular collaborators, with the band’s live incarnation featuring Michael Rea (of Symbol Soup) and Dave ‘The Attic’ Mountain.
Burnt O is Free Lunch’s debut single. And although they come from the UK, honestly they don’t sound very British to me, it rather feels like their heroes come from another background. The instrumental part of the song resembles Kurt Vile’s faster hits such as Pretty Pimpin and Loading Zones, and the color of the voice and overall vocal expression evokes Stephen Malkmus from Pavement. But at the same time they sound unique, fresh and fun. Actually I would give this 5 stars if the song was only a bit longer!:)
