Songs we love: August Edition III

Unfortunately, due to covid-19 complications, I have not been able to write many new articles in past weeks:( So these ones will be a bit shorter than usual… then I will take a break for about a month and I will come back at the end of September!:)

SWIM CAMP – SOCCER

🧑 I discovered Swim Camp with his Pretty Bird song in around 2019, but honestly I don’t know much of his discography, only heard a few tracks (which I liked)… and this is not that pleasant & nice like his previous stuff, i feel kinda “I don’t give a fuck” vibe from this one – and maybe that’s why I like it so much! That monotonous vocal is amazing.

πŸ’š my favorite moment is that noise part in the middle of the track, that was just perfect! (yes, I want more lo-fi/noise experiments. yes, I’m so tired of that clean bedroom pop spotify lo-fi sound that is soo uninspiring…)

πŸ’™ Swim Camp’s work reminds me of Alex G a lot (who likes to experiment as well – those new singles are brilliant). I would love to hear more weird tracks from Swim Camp like this one in the future… looking forward!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

HORATIO JAMES – THEY WILL HAVE US

🧑 this is exactly that type of melody that I love. It sounds like an old, supercatchy Belle and Sebastian song. Nice!

πŸ’š I love songs with this type of energy, fast guitars (I mean, for this indie genre), crazy electric guitars in the chorus…

πŸ’™ those female back vocals are beautiful as well and elevate the song to an even higher level!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

HEDDLU – AUTO-DA-FΓ‰

🧑 I can feel that I would enjoy this song live a lot, incredible portion of energy that is not that regular in this indie genre…

πŸ’š it’s not easy to make a 4-minute song that would be this entertaining for the whole length… but Rhodri Daniel aka heddlu seems to be an experienced and very talented singer-songwriter. Respect!

πŸ’™ that synth ‘solo’ at around 2:10 is addictive, and when the vocal comes in again and then the guitar (or is it still a synth?)… definitely my favorite part!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
