Songs we love: August Edition V

Unfortunately, due to covid-19 complications, I have not been able to write many new articles in past weeks:( So these ones will be a bit shorter than usual… then I will take a break for about a month and I will come back at the end of September!:)

CONFLICT AT SERENITY POOLS – TIDAL WAVE / OTHER LOVE

🧑 CASP is one of my biggest 2022 discoveries and I’m really glad they keep on releasing music! This year it’s been already 3 records and now a new EP Type C. Tidal Wave is almost a punk/hc anthem, I would really love to see this live, the energy is amazing. Other Love starts like a bedroom pop love song, but soon turns into this experimental, kind of strange journey… love this.

πŸ’š If you haven’t yet, check their previous releases, Corn Cobs is among my Top 20 songs from this year. And that says a lot!

πŸ’™ I love that break in the middle in Tidal Wave ( 1:10 ), the second half of this song sounds like from good old gbv.) dirty yet melodic. And Other Love – yeah, I must admit I love CASP’s songs the most when there are both male and female vocals together, they fit together soo well!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

CRYALOT – TOUCH THE SUN

🧑 when I first listened to Touch the Sun, I kinda thought it would be a typical pop song, nice but generic and boring… I’m glad I was so wrong! This is fresh and interesting!

πŸ’š The production reminds me of current hyperpop/glitch artists and I absolutely love the combination of weird digital sounds and melodic, pretty vocals… sort of like my fav songs by 100 gecs.

πŸ’™ the video is minimalist, but has such a pleasant vibe and it really makes you feel good. For some reason it reminded me of John Frusciante’s promo shots for his album The Empyrean lol.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

CREDIT ELECTRIC – OUT OF LOVE IN THE FACE OF A SHADOW

🧑 the beginning of the song sounded like something from a Quentin Tarantino movie, but then the vocal comes in and the whole atmosphere changes pretty quickly, nice move.

πŸ’š I love the combination of sort of western instrumentation and smooth, indie vocal melodies.

πŸ’™ the song doesn’t evolve very much, but that doesn’t really matter, it feels more like a flowing river… this could be 10 minutes long and would still be entertaining.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
