Songs we love: August Edition VI

Unfortunately, due to covid-19 complications, I have not been able to write many new articles in past weeks:( So these ones will be a bit shorter than usual… then I will take a break for about a month and I will come back at the end of September!:)

MARNI – FRAGILE

Marni (a singer-songwriter Nicolas Lara) is a new name on the indie bedroom pop scene, he comes from Los Angeles and I have to say that I felt pretty shocked (positively) when i was listening to his song Fragile for the first time. It has everything that I like about indie music: catchy instrumentation full of great ideas, excellent, authentic vocals, an amazing production that feels very rich and full, an engaging atmosphere… can’t wait to hear more!

3AM – BUMMER AND SONS

Usually I don’t listen to many songs with banjo but 3AM really caught my attention with their new track Bummer and Sons. It really reminds me of early Modest Mouse. Simply amazing catchy melodies full of energy, nice female back vocals, I also love the melancholic vibe this track has… To put it simply – it sounds like one of the best tracks from Modest Mouse best era. And that says a lot!

NUCLEAR TSUNAMI – DOTTED BY PALMS

Nuclear Tsunami is a talented producer and songwriter based in Echo Park by way of Austin. His songs poke around the dark side of humanity while hiding openly behind sparkly fingerpicking.

I must admit I’m not the biggest fan of Bob Dylan and Nuclear Tsunami sounds a lot like Dylan. But for some reason, I absolutely love this. It’s a mystery… but there is something in Nuclear Tsunami’s songs that I find very attractive and entertaining. Maybe it’s more melancholic and dark, but somehow it speaks to me… maybe I like the guitar playing more as well (sounds kinda like Sufjan). Yeah, this is definitely better than Dylan lol.

SERGIO NAPOLETANO – DOWNTOWN

Sergio Napoletano released a great EP, ‘Memory Aisle’ this year and this is already a second track that we recommend from it. The songs reflect on the past and look forward to a future of new paths and formative experiences.

It’s sort of standard indie rock/lo-fi track but I just like how authentic and natural Napoletano sounds, so while the song feels a bit regular, it’s at the same time pretty special for me. Music is strange.
