Welcome Strawberry is sort of a mysterious project based in Oakland, California. (I haven’t found any information about the singer-songwriter except for his photo:)
We already shared here a brilliant song You in Your Rare Ugliness in the past. And Prettier Than You is from the same eponymous album as the previous track. This is actually the first time that I listened to the whole album and I must say it is an amazing piece of work. Highly recommended!
The production on this track reminds me of early Smashing Pumpkins a bit (Gish/Mellon Collie era), and not only the production. I think even the melodies are kinda similar to that style that SP used to have (think of Daydream from Gish or even some dreamy Mellon Collie stuff). And maybe that’s the reason why I like these tracks so much.
Prettier Than You isn’t as fantastic as You in Your Rare Ugliness (but that was TOP 50 of 2022 for me) but it’s still totally worth listening to. (Just for the perfect sound of the guitars!)
