Wandering Years is the recording project of Brooklyn songwriter Gene Stroman. Inspired by pioneers of the indie-folk and slowcore canons like Elliott Smith and Jason Molina, Stroman’s Wandering Years has become known for making music to make people who like sad songs happy.
This is not my first introduction to Wandering Years, I really loved some of his songs from the previous year. And after hearing Ken Burns Country, it’s not entirely absurd to say that Wandering Years is one of the most talented musicians in this indie/slowcore genre right now. Definitely one of my most favorite ones.
His music is simple and really emotional. Ken Burns Country is only two minutes long and it makes you want to listen to the song over and over again. What gets me the most is the warm sound. Only few musicians have such a pleasant natural production.
But the best part is, once again, Stroman’s vocal. His voice is just fantastic, so smooth. I could listen to it all day long. The melodies are beautiful as well. Really hope he will break through soon! Five stars.
I can also recommend the second song from his new single (Mexico tomorrow) which is also really beautiful.
