De-Esser is a mysterious American singer-songwriter (I would guess he’s from WA / OR:) who returns with his new single Mercy. It’s the first music he has released since his 2016’s album Campa Cavallo.
He only has a handful of listeners on Spotify now, but I think he has a much brighter future ahead, especially if he keeps releasing songs like this one. The quality is indisputable. Also the production on this is really fantastic – warm, kinda old school, like it was recorded using analogue techniques. The drums have a beautiful, slightly distorted sound… love it!
But the best thing for me is the vocals, De-Esser has really excellent, gentle voice and his melodies are really touching and emotive. The song has sort of a chill vibe, but under the surface it’s also very sad.
Actually I can’t tell who he reminds me of, his expression is very unique. If I had to say one name, it would be Jason Molina, just more relaxed and not so depressing.
