Interview: Harley Marshall

Harley Marshall is a UK singer-songwriter who just released his new album the great escape.

You just released your new album ‘the great escape’ last week. I’m in love with the warm, yet melancholic atmosphere these tracks have. What is the main theme of this album? Who recorded and produced the album? Is it DIY or did someone help you with the record?

I recorded everything by myself, these songs spanned over 3 years hence the inconsistent production style. My setup is pretty basic, enjoy using plugins like SketchCassette II and j37 by waves. The album theme is about moving on from the past.

To be honest, ‘Ropes’ is already one of the best tracks I’ve heard this year. I love the mood. It kinda reminds me of folky stuff by Alex G and Fog Lake. Who are your favorite artists right now?

Thanks, I’m in love with fog lake’s new album ‘midnight society’. Also listening to George Harrison and early Beatles, find it helps me with songwriting.

What are your plans/goals for this year? Do you plan to tour UK?

My future plans are to keep releasing music and develop my sound. I’m currently working with more triphop beats, and switching up my recording style. Haven’t made any tour plans, but considering getting a band together in the future
