Interview: Friendly Faces

MOTEL VOID: We did an interview with you back in 2021. Do you still live in Chicago? Did the music scene somehow change there?

CAM: We all still live here. I’m in the same place and CJ our guitarist lives in the same building as me so it’s been nice to be able to rehearse music with someone so close. We all live around each other though in Chicago. The scene is growing , it seems like more places post covid are coming up, I hope it continues cause alot of things shut down unfortunately during that time.

MOTEL VOID: You mentioned then that you also play in a few other bands: Yin Waster, Violet Meridian, Bach Hotel… are they still active? Or did you start some new projects?

CAM: They’re all very much active to my knowledge . We’ve been working a lot on Friendly faces playing shows and writing . And I know griffin has been doing the same with yin waster.

MOTEL VOID: Painting Song is your first release of this year. What are your next plans? Are you working on a full-length album?

CAM: I think we’re gonna make it an EP but I’ve been writing a lot lately and I definitely wanna make a full length one at some point. I just don’t wanna force something and make it feel rushed.

MOTEL VOID: I see Purple Mountains among your favorite artists. What do you like the most about their music?

CAM: This is a new one for me. I was recommended them by a few coworkers and friends saying they reminded them of friendly faces . I love there somber uniqueness.

MOTEL VOID: Did your recording process change in the meantime?

CAM: The recording process is still the same for the most part. We record all the instruments mostly at griffins and we might record some vocals at my apartment.

Friendly Faces is a tripped out folk band from Chicago, Illinois comprised of singers Cam Goulder and Simona Boson, guitarists Griffin Mang and CJ Wells and bassist Jakob Morris.
The group combines many styles that span eras, from the sunshine pop of the 1960’s, to the twang of 1970’s country and western music, to the quaint nature of today’s bedroom pop.
