INTERVIEW: Catch Prichard

MOTEL VOID: You’re originally from the Midwest but decided to move to Europe when you were 19. How many years did you spend in Europe? Did you like the experience?

Catch Prichard: I lived in Europe from 2010 – 2016. It was an important time in my formative years that influenced how I am as a person today creatively, socially, philosophically, and spiritually.

MOTEL VOID: You moved back to Oakland, California in 2016. How would you describe the local scene there?

Catch Prichard: When I arrived in Oakland in 2016, there was much more of a DIY scene that I inundated myself in. Not to say that it doesn’t exist still, but it has declined rapidly since Ghostship. This I’ve found all over in America though, not just Oakland. In Oakland/SF, there’s a folk scene, a jazz scene, Funk/soul scene, hip hop is still very important here. Slacker indie, psych, and garage rock will always have a foothold here as well. But everyone co-exists with each other and mixes quite often. Thats nice.

MOTEL VOID: Your favorite local artists and venues?

Catch Prichard: My favorite local artists are probably also my friends. Off the top of my head – Credit Electric, Patsy Kline, and Adam Spry. My favorite venue may be the chapel.

MOTEL VOID: Could you tell us more about your writing and recording process?

Catch Prichard: I never really have a plan before recording. These days, I record and produce everything myself which lends time and space for a song to reveal itself.

MOTEL VOID: What are your plans for the rest of 2023? Any live shows/festivals ahead?

Catch Prichard: Releasing a lot of music which is great. Catch Prichard’s new album Everything I Love Has Fallen From Me will be out this fall with Anxiety Blanket Records, and on September 8th my experimental/instrumental record under my own name, It’ll Be Gone For A Litlle While, will release with Inner Islands Records.
