Old Milk Mooney is the solo project of frontman of Pin Cushion, Daniel Onorato.
MOTEL VOID: You’re from New Haven, Connecticut. How would you describe the current music scene there? Do you feel that you’re part of it?
OLD MILK MOONEY: Honestly, I love it! I moved here about a year and a half ago. In that time, I’ve met so many kind and supportive people in the scene here. It’s a great balance happening where it’s big enough to have variety, yet small enough to feel connected. You don’t get the feeling of competition here much which is refreshing.
MOTEL VOID: Could you recommend your favorite local artists and venues?
OLD MILK MOONEY: Oh there’s too many to name and I’m sure I’ll forget some but off the top of my head some local favorites would be Alexandra Burnet, Queen Moo, Stadia, Big Sigh, Nosebleed, Lighthouse, Qween Kong, Pondview, Dave Scanlan, Jealous Mind, Cvmrats, S.G. Carlson….I could go on hahah
My favorite venue of all time here is Never Ending Books. It’s a free book store collective and I’ve played/attended some of my favorite shows here. There’s a real warm, intimate energy to the space. Like a cozy bookstore/living room.
MOTEL VOID: You also play in a band Pin Cushion. Any plans with this project?
OLD MILK MOONEY: Yes I love playing with them! We have plans to record an EP of some new material. And really our main goal is to play out more. Playing with them is super cathartic and I’d love to have more of that in my life.
MOTEL VOID: You’ve just released a new single (great by the way! Love the production) Brick by Brick. Will it be a part of your new album?
OLD MILK MOONEY: Thanks so much! I recorded it on my little Tascam 4 track recorder and it was mixed and mastered by Jalipaz at Audioconfusioin studios in Mesa, AZ. And yes, it is part of a five song EP set to release in the coming months. My last single, Kali, will also be on it.
MOTEL VOID: Your plans and goals for the rest of the year?
OLD MILK MOONEY: Besides releasing this EP. My goal for the rest of the year is to record more. I have a chunk of material building that I want to get down. I recently saw the Elephant Six recording Co doc and it inspired me to revisit my cassette tap home studio set up I have. Which is super limited, but I have new found faith in it hahah.
