INTERVIEW: SEX WEEK

MOTEL VOID: Could you introduce your project in a few sentences?

RICHARD: Sex week is a fun and stinky music duo based in NYC. We love movies and animals.

PEARL: Sex Week is exactly how Richard described. We’re both very stinky. Though, I take showers once a day and I think that translates into our music. And we hate being apart for more than a few hours.

MOTEL VOID: Your favorite musicians right now?

PEARL: I recently found this artist Nourished By Time, and they are pretty amazing. Richard introduced me to Placebo and there’s no going back. Also, our friends ‘Sister’ has an album that just came out and “Notes App Apology” has been on repeat.

RICHARD: Some current favorites are Xiu Xiu, youbet, Harry Nilsson and Drake.

MOTEL VOID: ‘Toad Mode’ is your debut single and it seems that it’s a great success, congratulations! It even appeared on a few renowned indie playlists on Spotify… Are you satisfied with the reception?

RICHARD: Yes it was kind of a total shock especially since it was our first song from this specific project of ours. We freaked out in a good way but also a nervous way like we need more music asap.

PEARL: Honestly, we’re pretty floored. A few friends told us it was a good song, but we didn’t realize it would translate past that. I’m pretty greedy, so I’m never satisfied. I want more. That being said, big picture I suppose I’m satisfied.

MOTEL VOID: Could you tell us more about the recording and writing process of ‘Toad Mode’? Will it be a part of your new album?

RICHARD: We wrote it on a whim together just hanging out with my roommate’s cat, “Toad”. The thought of us acting like him when he gets excited when we get excited spurred the song.

PEARL: It was one of the first songs I ever recorded so I was nervous. Recording with Richard is always a heart opening experience. I always just want to do my best, and he knows how to get me there. Whether it will be a part of our new album is dependent on lots of things that are currently up in the air.

MOTEL VOID: Your plans and goals for 2024?
