On Motel Void we are consistent fans of Frans Asthma’s work. This year he has already released 4 new singles and all of them are definitely worth checking out.
Frans Asthma is a solo project, based in Mesa, Arizona. Inspired by the sounds of slowcore and shoegaze. And also by the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh and a lot of literary works by Kafka. Asthma reminds me of many of my favorite artists: Pedro the Lion, Have a Nice Life, Alex G, Duster… but at the same time his songs sound distinctive and original.
“All of the songs are recorded in my bedroom and mixed by me! I love experimenting with different sounds and textures so I feel like recording at home adds not only authenticity but also a very specific roughness you probably wouldn’t get out of a studio recording! My writing process probably isn’t the healthiest as I often try to isolate myself and drown in the feelings I’m writing about.”
