Songs we love: BUDDY JUNIOR – Holy / don’t wait up

Holy is a new single by our favorite San Francisco artist Buddy Junior.

“Like most Buddy Junior songs, Holy started on acoustic guitar. That main guitar part that carries throughout the songs was just something I was playing one day, and I freestyled the first half of the vocals on the fly that day. I named the voice memo Holy for no good reason, maybe.

When culling song ideas for this full length, I thought it was pretty sick, and spent a lot more time crafting the second verse. I wanted it to keep a lot from the first verse in terms of pacing and rhyme and whatever else, but it had to be more sicker. I recorded everything at home just on garageband, so i beefed up the tune with some other guitar layers, and a solo, added my baby-girl voice at the end. The drums are performed on a midi drum pad, which I kinda cooked on for this one.”

don’t wait up was released already in 2023, but it’s definitely worth checking out. I absolutely love that disturbing atmosphere of this song, kinda reminds me of Have a Nice Life (if they were more ‘indie’), great repetitive melody as well… one of the best tracks I’ve heard in a while.
