INTERVIEW: ETERNALLY COWBOY

MOTEL VOID: You’re from Los Angeles, California. How would you describe the current ‘shoegaze/dreampop’ scene there? Do you feel that you’re part of it?

ETERNALLY COWBOY: i’m not aware of a direct “Shoegaze scene” in L.A as most of the general indie rock uses elements of it so its kinda hard to distinguish it from other forms of rock here. so i don’t feel like im part of that scene but rather part of a larger music scene broadly speaking.

MOTEL VOID: Could you name your favorite local venues and artists?

ETERNALLY COWBOY: some of my favorite venues here are The Scotland Yard in Canoga Park, Sam First near the airport, The York in Highland Park & The Wiltern in Koreatown.
as for favorite local artists im actually a big jazz head so im a big fan of Devin Daniels, Nicole Mccabe, Myles Martin & Jermaine Paul. As for Shoegaze & Rock though I’m A big fan of This great band from Ventura C.A called Goodbye Ranger as well as Michelangelo Hyeon.

MOTEL VOID: You’ve just released a new album ‘Heaven’. Could you tell us more about the recording and writing process of this record?

ETERNALLY COWBOY: I have a background in sound engineering and rent a small studio in the woods of Thousand Oaks C.A so we home recorded Heaven very slowly bit by bit over the course of about a year. Probably could’ve gotten it done sooner but life and other projects got in the way. after that I sent it over to Mooscat Recording where it was mixed by Mike Post and then we sent it to Abbey Road Studios in England where its was mastered by Alex Wharton.

MOTEL VOID: Who is your biggest inspiration right now?

ETERNALLY COWBOY: I’m a huge Radiohead fan so the latest album by The Smile has been very inspiring

MOTEL VOID: Your plans for 2024?

ETERNALLY COWBOY: It’s sort of hard to say what our plans are in 2024. Our bassist Rj left because he got busy with marriage and life so we first have to find a new bassist. other than that we probably would just aspire to get bigger shows and maybe get these songs placed in a movie/show.
