INTERVIEW: FANCLUBWALLET

MOTEL VOID: You’re from Ottawa, Ontario. How would you describe the current music scene there? Do you feel that you’re part of it?

FANCLUBWALLET: Yes! I think the music scene is really awesome here – It feels like everyone is really rooting for each other which is nice.

MOTEL VOID: Your favorite local venues and artists?

FANCLUBWALLET:

Venues: SAW, House of Targ, The Rainbow,
Bands: Sorry Snowman, Toothbrusher2000, Dart Trees, Fiamma, Neurotypes, Chemical Club, Backseat Dragon, Obliterator… I could go on and on

MOTEL VOID: You’ve just released your new EP ‘Our Bodies Paint Traffic Lines’. Could you tell us more about the recording and writing process of this record?

FANCLUBWALLET: It was a lot of fun, being the first time we recorded as a full band it was nice to have some of the pressure taken off me. We all got in a room and jammed too which was something I’d never done before!

MOTEL VOID: I really love your ‘Car Crash in G Major’ single from 2020 which is a huge hit on streaming services! (over 13 million streams on Spotify). How did this happen? And did this success have a big impact on your career?

FANCLUBWALLET: It was super random honestly; I just woke up one day to find it had been added to a bunch of playlists. I’m very grateful because it’s given me a chance to do a lot of things in music I never thought I’d get to do like touring and meeting fans!

MOTEL VOID: Your biggest inspirations right now?

FANCLUBWALLET: My friends, Mathieu Larone’s artwork, 80’s horror movies and hot pavement

MOTEL VOID: Your plans for the rest of the year?

FANCLUBWALLET: I am taking it easy for the summer, and hopefully starting on an album. If any bands want to take us on tour in the fall… that would be awesome
