INTERVIEW: BUCKLEY’S ANGEL

Buckley’s Angel is the ongoing moniker of LA multi-instrumentalist Michael Kelly (Ash Williams, Matt Caskitt & The Breaks).

MOTEL VOID: You’ve just released your new single “DML.” Will it be part of your upcoming record?

BUCKLEY’S ANGEL: I am actually going to be releasing 2 more singes this summer!

MOTEL VOID: Based in LA, how would you describe the current music scene? Do you have any favorite local artists and venues?

BUCKLEY’S ANGEL: There are so many talented bands out here, 2070 is my absolute favorite, Also my muse Rain Gregorio puts on amazing shows every single time. It’s also such a pleasure to see Sweet Gloom play whenever they are in town.

MOTEL VOID: You’re inspired by artists like Current Joys, Acid Ghost, and Beach Fossils. How do they influence your recent work?

BUCKLEY’S ANGEL: I’ve definitely tried to pull the senescence of the bands with this new release. With the driving guitars and lyrical vibe of Current Joys and Beach Fossils, I’ve really tried to do them justice!

MOTEL VOID: In 2021, you released your debut EP Pinnacle Room. Has your writing and recording process changed since then?

BUCKLEY’S ANGEL: I’ve definitely have tried to think bigger than my first release. I’ve tried to hone in on the harmony/melody aspect of my songwriting and I think it’s really showed.

MOTEL VOID:What are your plans for the rest of the year?

BUCKLEY’S ANGEL: My plans for the rest of the year is to have fun with the releases that I have. I love these songs so much so i’m going to let everyone have a good supply of summer jams.
