REVIEW: QUBINOIX – EVERYDAY IS SUNDAY / GIRLS ARE ALRIGHT

I have a weakness for Japanese bands, and QUBINOIX is no exception. Their sound harkens back to the production style of a nineties band, particularly evident in their two new tracks: the nearly six-minute Everyday is Sunday and the more straightforward Girls Are Alright.

The guitar work in both songs evokes the essence of 90s icons like Cocteau Twins. The production is another highlight, feeling natural and effortless, free from the pitfalls of overproduction that often plague bands in this genre. This organic quality adds a layer of authenticity that is refreshing to hear.

While Everyday is Sunday may not be groundbreaking in its innovation, it excels in execution. The production feels alive, with each element balanced to create a rich, immersive listening experience. The vocals are smooth and engaging, the melodies are catchy, staying with you long after the songs have ended.

A standout moment for me is the middle section of Everyday is Sunday, where the song transitions into a serene, contemplative phase before building to an epic, satisfying conclusion. This dynamic shift showcases the band’s ability to craft emotionally resonant music.

Girls Are Alright complements Everyday is Sunday with its more grounded approach, yet it retains the same high level of craftsmanship. Together, these tracks demonstrate Qubinoix’s versatility and deep understanding of their musical roots.
