REVIEW: BISTRO PLATE – SPACE LIMO

Lately, I’ve found myself drifting away from the bedroom pop sound—I’ve simply heard too much of it, and it’s starting to feel a bit stale. But every so often, a track comes along that catches my attention and pulls me back in.

This time, that track is Space Limo by the Australian band Bistro Plate. While the instrumental arrangement might not immediately stand out, there’s something compelling about its lo-fi production that sets it apart. I’ve never been a fan of overly polished bedroom pop tracks; they often lose the raw, intimate feel that originally made the genre so appealing. Space Limo, on the other hand, embraces those rough edges, which gives it an authentic, unrefined charm that resonates with me.

But what truly elevates this song are the vocals. They have a beautifully dreamy quality, effortlessly floating over the music while remaining catchy. There’s a certain emotional depth and warmth in the delivery that captures the essence of what I love about bedroom pop when it’s done right. It’s a track that begs to be listened to during a quiet evening, the perfect soundtrack for an introspective walk under the night sky—something I’ll definitely be doing with Space Limo playing on repeat tonight.
