REVIEW: TANZ AKADEMIE – VENICE

One of my favorite indie music scenes, surprisingly, comes from Italy. When I visit Italian cities, I often associate the atmosphere with the quirky, nostalgic sounds of weird disco music drifting from the beaches. However, beneath the surface, there’s a vibrant underground scene with many compelling artists.

One such artist is Tanz Akademie. This spring, they released their debut album, Hullaballoo, which has become one of my favorites. The standout track, Venice, is a raw and intense experience, showcasing the band’s ability to blend dark tones with gritty production. The distorted vocals and unpolished sound give the track a haunting quality, hinting at the energy and emotion likely present in their live performances (Unfortunately, I haven’t seen them live yet!).

Tanz Akademie is definitely a band to keep an eye on. The Italian underground scene continues to surprise me, revealing more depth and talent with each new discovery!
