Solid Blood is the solo project of Graham W. Bell (known from Committeemen, Alexei Shishkin, Kinships, and Hart & Hare). This project draws heavily from Bell’s experiences and inspirations gathered from years spent living in Brooklyn, Houston, and traveling across the United States.
Solid Blood recently released his new single Beyond Belief, which pulls you in immediately with hypnotic drums and a straightforward guitar line, building up to a melancholic vocal that enters after just thirty seconds.
What I enjoy most about his music is when he leans into a noisier sound, as he does here, where roughly a third of the way through, distorted guitars come in, adding grit and energy. Vocally, Bell’s style carries a hint of Ben Gibbard, perhaps in the similarly wistful melodies. It’s a beautifully sad track, masterfully executed.
