INTERVIEW: PLANT-BASED DELIVERY SYSTEM

MOTEL VOID: You’re based in the UK. How would you describe the current music scene in the city you live in? Do you have any favorite local venues or artists?

PLANT-BASED DELIVERY SYSTEM: I’m currently based in Cambridge, UK. My favorite local place to discover new music would be Hank’s Dirty (Previously Tall Trees). It’s this cozy little pub where they host a lot of student bands and do open mics on Tuesdays. In general, Cambridge is rich in open mic nights which is how I initially started performing original material live.

MOTEL VOID: I couldn’t find much information about you online, to be honest. Could you introduce yourself in a few sentences?

PLANT-BASED DELIVERY SYSTEM: Yeah, so I’m Aske and I started making music using the artist name Plant-Based Delivery System this year. I came to Cambridge to study Biophysics in 2021 but ended up falling in love with the artsy cultural scene that surrounds the city. Instead of doing my degree, I went busking in the street and playing open mics with friends. I was also in a 90s cover band playing Foo Fighters and Nirvana covers, pretty fun time! This summer I spent a month busking around Europe writing songs which I’m now slowly making into an album.

MOTEL VOID: This year, you released an EP titled Dogs and a single called Plans. Will these tracks be part of your upcoming album? Could you walk us through your writing and recording process? Also, which DAW do you use?

PLANT-BASED DELIVERY SYSTEM: the tracks I’ve made, so far, will probably not be part of the new album but remain an EP and a single. I’m excited to only included new stuff on the upcoming album. The writing and recording process usually starts with the guitar and a blank sheet of paper. When I have the guitar part down I record two separate tracks to the click, which I can then start layering with keys and bass. I’m using Ableton – It’s extremely user-friendly.

MOTEL VOID: Who or what is your biggest inspiration at the moment?

PLANT-BASED DELIVERY SYSTEM: Right now my biggest inspirations are mainly Alex G and Mac DeMarco. I’d love to make something in that shape.
