The Berlin-based band Meagre Martin first caught my attention with their previous singles, and now they’re back with a new EP, In the Room.
They have an incredible instinct for melody—one that instantly brings to mind some of my favorite artists. Imagine a fusion of Andy Shauf, Waxahatchee, and Hop Along. A perfect combination for me!
The title track, In the Room, runs for three minutes and kicks off with a memorable guitar riff, carried by effortlessly natural production and laid-back, slacker-style vocals. As the song unfolds, it shifts into a bridge and a chorus driven by heavy guitars, adding depth and contrast.
Despite these dynamic shifts, the track never feels chaotic or overwhelming, nor does it settle into monotony. Meagre Martin have struck the perfect balance for this kind of songwriting—much like my favorite band Hop Along have mastered in their own way.
