REVIEW: AMPHIGORY – AMBITION OF A FOOL

We’ve already covered the Irish project Amphigory in the past. Sometimes, just glancing at a band’s promo photos is enough to tell you that their music will be probably something special—and this is one of those cases.

Their new track, Ambition of a Fool, carries a haunting, almost depressing atmosphere.

Clocking in at just two and a half minutes, the song features a brief instrumental interlude halfway through. Otherwise, the song is woven with a simple yet emotive vocal melody. The vocals have a raw quality that brings to mind John Frusciante’s early solo albums.

Everything I do is all done by myself in my spare time using a cheap audio interface and my computer, but it’s something I enjoy more than anything, whether it’s the production side of it, or writing the songs themselves.

What I enjoyed most was the ending—when the track slows down and leads into a final instrumental riff. Honestly, I wouldn’t have minded if that part kept going for a few more minutes!

Rating: 4 out of 5.
