MOTEL VOID: You’ve just released your new album, Limb Rung Ladder. I really love that ‘organic’ sound of it. Could you describe the writing and recording process behind it?
DUSKER: Thanks! I think the ‘organic’ sound of it came about because we recorded and mixed everything in house. We were keen to build the album ourselves from top to bottom and follow a DIY spirit. We wanted to convey the feel and meaning of the songs in as transparent and honest a way as possible – with our fingerprints audible on the whole process.
MOTEL VOID: Who or what is your biggest inspiration at the moment?
DUSKER: We all have very eclectic tastes! The album’s clearest influences are Noise Rock and Post Hardcore, but we incorporated a lot of different musical styles into it. We tried to let the songs breathe and progress naturally in the production phases, dispense with genre constraints, and allow each member of the band to write with creative freedom.
Personally, I’ve found the ethos of early 1990s house and rave production very inspiring. I admire the grassroots ethos at that time in the UK, and the feeling that anyone could produce transgressive music in their bedroom with weird or forgotten music gear.
MOTEL VOID: You’re from Leicester, UK. How would you describe the current music scene there?
DUSKER: Things in the city were quiet for a while after Covid, but have picked up over the last couple of years. There are plenty of new bands emerging here which is exciting to see. We also have some great connections to other cities in the Midlands like Nottingham and Derby. Promoters like ButtonPusher DIY and Outtamind Presents have been putting on some great shows in the region.
MOTEL VOID: Do you have any favourite local venues or artists?
DUSKER: Our favourite local venue is The Big Difference in Leicester. Ant Lamb who promotes shows there is really committed to building up a grassroots space for music and developing local talent. A favourite local artist of ours is our friend Courtney Askey, an excellent gothic lo-fi songwriter who featured on our track “Yaki Soba”.
MOTEL VOID: Do you have any plans for a tour to promote your new album?
DUSKER: Yes! We have we have some weekenders booked in next couple of months in the UK, including shows in Nottingham, Cardiff, and Bristol, and will tour more extensively later in the year. We can’t wait to hit the road again.
