It seems that most of the music I come across from Ireland is genuinely great – deep, well-crafted, and mostly aligned with my taste.
The latest discovery is a song Ruminate by an artist who goes by the name Buí. Formed in May 2017, Buí is a Belfast-based collaborative musical project centered around the songwriting of Josh Healy.
The track was recorded on a four-track cassette tape to achieve an authentic lo-fi sound, and it truly delivers – natural, organic, and effortlessly pleasant to the ears. It’s the kind of production style that never loses its charm for me.
Rather than relying on a catchy, intricate melody or a particularly innovative approach to lo-fi folk, Ruminate thrives on its beautifully crafted atmosphere. The hushed, whispery vocals fit perfectly, enhancing the song’s intimate and immersive feel.
This is the kind of music I never get tired of.
