REVIEW: MOUNT MURAL – EVERYONE

I’ve already featured the Canadian shoegaze-inspired band Mount Mural on this blog before – their 2021 track Sickboy was one of my most exciting discoveries at the time. Their ability to blend raw energy with atmospheric depth immediately caught my attention, and it’s been fascinating to follow their evolution.

Their latest release, Everyone, leans into the heavier side of their sound, infused with a clear desire to experiment. While its roots remain firmly in shoegaze, the song ventures into unexpected territories, seamlessly shifting between elements of post-punk and dream pop. It’s a track that is constantly morphing and surprising the listener.

What struck me the most was its absolutely frantic opening – where most songs build up gradually, Everyone throws you straight into a whirlwind from the first second. The track ultimately dissolves into a rich, introspective soundscape, layered with intricate instrumentation and an almost hypnotic atmosphere. It is a track that feels unpredictable yet cohesive.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
