Soot Sprite tease their upcoming album with a new single, Days After Days, released a month after the excellent All My Friends Are Depressed.
Days After Days maintains a similar rock energy, stretching over five minutes – a length that suits the band remarkably well. I have to say, I’d love to hear more extended tracks from them, as it gives space for both energetic passages and a more immersive atmosphere. When, sometime after the three-minute mark, the guitars fade out, leaving only the vocals, before erupting into a raw, screaming section and a powerful finale, it’s truly striking.
I’m not a big fan of fade-outs, and the ending here caught me a bit off guard (it’s not quite a fade-out but rather a shift into a very lo-fi quality), but after a few more listens, I really started to appreciate it
A strong contender for one of my favorite albums of the year.
