REVIEW: CHRIS BULLINGER – WAITIN’ TO BE SEEN PART 2

Poet and singer-songwriter Chris Bullinger has released Part 2 of his conceptual double album, Waitin’ To Be Seen. Following the success of Part 1, this second installment further deepens his exploration of love, resilience, and self-discovery.

The album opens with “Crawlin’ My Way Back to You”, a track that leans into folk and country influences, setting the tone with its warm, laid-back feel. The song carries the atmosphere of a cozy, dimly lit pub where you find yourself nestled in a corner, drink in hand, as the rhythm subtly builds, and the night begins to unfold in a swirl of music and conversation. It’s easy to get lost in its welcoming embrace, where Bullinger’s storytelling shines.

Following this, “Meet You Down the Line” is a moment of tender reflection. This is Bullinger at his best – melancholic yet comforting, weaving together rich vocal harmonies and delicate string arrangements that add to its nostalgic charm. “Salvation As I Know It” feels like a defining moment on the album, a piece that invites you to pause and simply feel. A track that effortlessly blends soft, dreamy harmonies with playful keys, creating a reflective and immersive listening experience.

As the album moves into its second half, one of its biggest highlights emerges – “Shine”. This track carries a blues-infused groove, with synth textures that echo the hypnotic energy of The Doors. Bullinger’s vocal delivery here is striking, somewhere between the gravelly poetry of Leonard Cohen and the raw, whiskey-soaked storytelling of Tom Waits. The song exudes a subtle melancholy, a shadowy elegance that’s reinforced by atmospheric keys and piano, while the interplay between male and female vocals adds a haunting depth. There’s a cinematic quality to it – it feels like it belongs to a late-night drive through neon-lit streets or the quiet solitude of an empty bar just before closing time.

The album closes with “Offerin’ Acceptance”, a song that brings the listener back to the comforting, familiar warmth that underpins Waitin’ To Be Seen. It carries a sense of peaceful resolution – instrumentally rich, melodically inviting, and brimming with a quiet sense of optimism. As the final notes fade, the album leaves a lingering feeling, much like the memory of a perfect sunny day spent outdoors – on a trip, a vacation, or simply basking in the beauty of the moment.
