BEST NEW TRACKS: ACCNTNT ☆ LOVERGHOST ☆ DIPPER

The best tracks that have come our way in the past week or so and that we highly recommend listening to…

LOVERGHOST – SWEET TOOTH

Loverghost is an Atlanta-based ambient electro-emo band whose delicate, emo-driven songwriting blends seamlessly with ambient textures and shimmering synth touches. Their single sweet tooth was released alongside i can be a plant to sunlight. Sweet tooth itself is a genuinely pleasant listen: jangly indie guitars, a melodic vocal line, and a steady rhythmic beat. Overall, it doesn’t sound quite like anything else I’ve come across in the genre lately – and that’s meant as high praise. The vocal melody, delivered with a high cadence that borders on rap at times, is especially striking. While the track leans into melancholy, the atmosphere remains chill and inviting. When the song opens up into a more intense passage around the 1:45 mark, it’s a real joy – loverghost know exactly how to harness that kind of energy.

Also highly recommended: the music video, made entirely from 2,246 printed thermal photos.

ACCNTNT – ALICE

Next, we move to Canada and shift genres a bit. accntnt is the electronic-leaning bedroom project of Toronto-based artist Kyle Gottschalk. His work draws inspiration from Madlib, Panda Bear, Cocteau Twins, Aphex Twin, Loscil, Carl Craig, and more. While I don’t usually gravitate toward this style of music, I was intrigued by the fact that accntnt is also a member of one of my favorite bands, Mount Mural, which I’ve recommended here before. Unlike the kind of electronic music I usually encounter in clubs, Alice feels like a headphones track: scattered noises and side-panning sounds become playful details, while the lo-fi beat gives it warmth and character. The song brims with ideas, never dragging, and manages to create a world of its own – slightly cold, yet welcoming, much like the palette on its cover artwork.

DIPPER – MIND TO HEAL

Finally, we stay in Canada with dipper, a project I hadn’t encountered before. dipper is the songwriting outlet of Ottawa-based folk musician Dylan Patrick Roy. His listed influences on Spotify include some of my personal favorites – Alex G, Bill Callahan, and Mount Eerie – so I knew this would be worth checking out. The song reminds me a bit of Andy Shauf – not so much in songwriting, but in mood. It carries an introspective tone, with gentle, carefully crafted production that draws you in. His voice, in turn, evokes the deep, steady delivery of Callahan. So far, dipper has only released a handful of songs, spaced out over time, but I’m hoping an album will follow soon. Mind to Heal is a truly beautiful indie-folk track – unpretentious, subtle, and not trying too hard to please at first glance.
