The best tracks that have come our way in the past week or so and that we highly recommend listening to…
SOMEONE LEFT A NOTE – LOUDER THAN SILENCE
The first track comes from the German project someone left a note – an atmospheric, dreamy bedroom endeavor. I haven’t been able to find out who exactly is behind it; the whole presentation feels a bit eerie and hazy — much like the track louder than silence itself. From the very first moment it captivates with a pleasant lo-fi late-summer vibe (helped by the lovely cover art) and is beautifully complemented by an understated vocal, working more as another layer than something that stands out. Really nice!
MARRIED KNOT – PLANT SONG
Married Knot from Long Island belongs to the heavier bands we feature on the blog. I was immediately hooked by the atmospheric intro – a thick bass, hypnotic beat, the swell of guitars — all a premonition of what’s to come. The vocal starts out melodic, somewhat reminiscent of my favorites Have a Nice Life. Then the song bares its teeth with aggression, only to retreat briefly, before breaking wide open halfway through and plunging into chaotic madness full of screaming guitars and shouting vocals. The frenzy is fantastic — and just so much fun.
BLUE RINGED BABY – SALT EYES
“Ambient jazz meets the raw energy of U.K. jungle” – that’s how London’s producer, dj an visual artist Blue Ringed Baby describes himself on Spotify. His new track Salt Eyes (with Kamī on vocals), though, leans more into shoegaze and dream pop – and the combination is outstanding. I love the reverbed vocals and hazy atmosphere paired with wild, slightly unhinged beats and instrumental passages. They lift you from your seat while, at the same time, making you want to lie in the grass and watch the clouds drift by.
