Indigo Version is the new EP from Atlanta-born rapper Zehbrah. Sonically sharp and artistically diverse, it stands out as one of the strongest hip-hop projects I’ve heard in recent memory.
The record opens with Last Bastion, a track that immediately grabs attention with its playful instrumental passage. But what really stands out here is Zehbrah’s flow – flawless and magnetic, it pulls you straight into the song. The cadence is energetic, the production tight, and by the time he lets out that raw shout at the end of the track, the EP already has you hooked.
Next up is Gifted, which leans into more experimental territory with a kaleidoscope of sounds, textures, and shifts. The production feels inventive, perfectly matched by Zehbrah’s driving delivery.
The highlight for me comes with Koolaid in Refrigerator. The track channels the fire and urgency of a Killer Mike solo cut, though its foundation is more soul- and jazz-inflected. Zehbrah’s vocal performance here is raw, unconventional, and engaging – maybe not radio-friendly, but all the more striking for it. At under two minutes, it leaves a vivid impression.
The closing tracks, NATT and Blips, continue the EP’s momentum without faltering. NATT bursts forward with rapid-fire bars and emotional punch: “Nervous all the time but I’m doing just fine,” Zehbrah declares, driving the verse straight into the listener. By contrast, Blips drifts into a more chilled, hypnotic atmosphere, its relaxed groove lending the EP a well-balanced finish that complements the overall concept beautifully.
