BEST NEW TRACKS: LIT. MAJOR – SOUND EFFECTS

I won’t pretend that I initially noticed the LIT.MAJOR project for purely musical reasons – years ago, it first caught my attention mainly because of a professional collaboration with the platform The Needle Drop. However, I never really took the time to properly dive into the music itself. LIT.MAJOR is the project of Remy Josef, and the track Sound Effects comes from the gradually released album As Seen On TV. On the record, the Connecticut-based musician handles everything himself: acoustic guitars, electric guitars, keyboards, bass, percussion and beats, vocals, as well as the production.

What I appreciate most about the song is its understated nature. LIT. MAJOR describes himself as a “sad-song singer,” and it’s a fitting label. At a time when sad songwriters may no longer be as fashionable as they once were, this track still stands out as a particularly pleasant and sincere example of the form. There’s a clear sense of genuine care and affection for music here, without any showy gestures or overly dramatic energy. Instead, the song feels calm, warm, and quietly engaging – it fit my mood perfectly during these snowy days. LIT. MAJOR has a pleasing voice with a solid range and, most importantly, a strong ability to write a well-crafted song. If you’re into traditional indie folk with a gentle touch of melancholy, this is a very good choice!
