Snake Orange Cake is the project of Berlin-based artist Julia Carlsson, exploring the borderlands between spoken word, experimental electronics, and raw emotional storytelling.
In her new track Vision, she once again blends everything I love about her music. Even with the shift toward more experimental production and the playful, eclectic sounds woven throughout the track, she maintains a strong sense of melody. This is reinforced by the repetitive, catchy vocals, which slightly remind me of some of my favorite tracks by the British band Archive.
For me, the highlight might be the outro, where the vocals gradually deconstruct and then return, creating a hypnotic, immersive effect. I also can’t overlook the visuals — the aesthetic of Snake Orange Cake’s videos is very close to my taste, and the latest video is once again outstanding!
