BEST NEW TRACKS: LANA LEONE – ISABELL

I have to admit that the shoegaze genre, despite its enduring popularity, sometimes feels a bit exhausted to me. Yet, every now and then a band comes along that manages to capture my attention and genuinely excite me. This is the story of Lana Leone – a femme-fronted shoegaze project based in Minneapolis, MN. They describe this release as a new step for them, moving in a moodier, denser direction, exploring richer textures and a more immersive sound.

The band already has several singles and an EP under their belt, and this new track marks a deliberate move into uncharted territory – more atmospheric, moodier and denser direction. Personally, I am drawn to the way the song’s atmosphere unfolds. It carries echoes of Gish and Siamese Dream by the Smashing Pumpkins, while also hinting at the eerie, enigmatic vibe of Twin Peaks.

For me, the highlight is undoubtedly the second half of the track. This section becomes incredibly dense and intense, building into a frenzied energy. I can easily imagine how electrifying it must be in a live setting, where the layers of sound and raw emotion would hit even harder.
