Rainy Day Café is the recording project of Ben Williams, a 26-year-old songwriter and recording enthusiast whose work blends lo-fi charm with a hands-on DIY approach. The project began in 2021, when he moved to the seaside town of Brighton.
His new single I’m Lost in This World, much like other Williams tracks we’ve previously highlighted, draws its strength from several key elements. First and foremost, there’s the beautifully warm and natural-sounding production. Williams records all the instrumentation to tape himself, resulting in a sound that embraces small imperfections and feels genuinely human. In an era increasingly shaped by AI-generated music, this comes across as a refreshing and reassuring contrast.
Another major highlight is the strong, repetitive chorus (I’m lost in this world…), which hooks you almost instantly, within the very first seconds of the track. Still, my personal favorite moment arrives in the second half of this under-two-minute gem: a slightly fuzz-soaked solo that adds just the right amount of grit and character.
I’m Lost in This World is simple, unpretentious, and executed with great confidence. Rainy Day Café clearly knows exactly what it’s doing – and Motel Void is fully on board.
