I’ve always had a soft spot for the Canadian music scene, so it was a real pleasure to discover one of the standout newcomers from its heavier side. The Same Sky is a Montreal-based indie rock project founded by Joseph Simon, and their upcoming record Haunting in the Mountains is set for release in April 2026 via Casa Joven. The single Sad Songs hints at something truly powerful on the horizon.

This isn’t quite shoegaze, nor is it straightforward post-punk – it’s a compelling fusion that feels frantic, energetic, and uncompromising, yet still manages to retain a strong sense of melody despite its edge, somewhere between new wave and emo. It has both drive and emotional weight; I can only imagine how electrifying it must feel live. And that strange solo in the second half, followed by the mesmerizing outro… I can’t wait for the full record!
