Snake Orange Cake is the project of Åland-raised, Berlin-based artist Julia Carlsson, exploring the borderlands between spoken word, experimental electronics, and raw emotional storytelling. On our blog, she’s a longtime staple and an all-time favorite, so we simply couldn’t skip her new single Lucid.

The three-minute track opens with a fantastic experimental electronic instrumental section full of energy. When the vocals come in, it takes on a distinctly eerie vibe and reminds me of another Berlin-based musician, Lucy Kruger. What I usually love most about Snake Orange Cake’s work are the vocal melodies, but in this song I found myself even more captivated by the instrumental component, which is dense and carries a beautifully unsettling atmosphere!
