INTERVIEW: BAD TIGER

MOTEL VOID: You’re from San Francisco, CA. How would you describe the current music scene there? Do you feel that you’re part of it?

BAD TIGER: Hard to see from the inside what exactly we’re a part of, but despite the Bay being a hard place to make music in, folks manage to make a ton of sick music here! We’re hoping to get more connected with the local DIY scene in 2024, house or community-run shows have always been some of our favorite gigs to play.

MOTEL VOID: Your biggest music influences right now?

BAD TIGER: Been really digging into the new Slow Pulp and Sufjan albums that just came out! Also on a real Kurt Vile kick these days.

MOTEL VOID: Could you tell us more about the recording and writing process of your new single ‘Second Sight’? Will it be a part of your new album?

BAD TIGER: “Second Sight” was written in late 2022 and recorded in early 2023 with Mackenzie Bunch in Berkeley. I just had the vocals and guitar part written when we got into the studio. I think Tyler had some ideas for the bass-line already, and Jacob had some ideas for the drum-part, but the drums really came alive when we were in the studio, and I think totally changed the shape of the song. We were super jazzed about the recording that day, just hearing the song in a totally new way when all the parts finally clicked together… I think that’s one of my favorite parts of making music. “Second Sight” is absolutely a part of Bliss, which comes out 2/2/24!

MOTEL VOID: Your plans and goals for 2024?

BAD TIGER: Release “Bliss,” hopefully get a couple tours out with it, hit the studio to record some new tunes! Just that beautiful cycle of making and sharing music 😊
