Bleary from Nashville are set to release their new album Little Brain in mid-May. Written and recorded gradually between 2019 and 2025, the record grew out of fragments that existed even before the release of their 2019 EP Gates. Early on, Bleary’s creative process centered around writing songs, performing them live, and reshaping them in front of audiences. When the pandemic disrupted that rhythm, the band turned inward. Songs were exchanged back and forth as demos, evolving in isolation. A home recording setup built by Callan Dwan and Taro Yamazaki opened up new possibilities, allowing the band to explore textures and arrangements that wouldn’t have been achievable in a traditional rehearsal space.
Now they’re unveiling the third single from the album, foyer — and it’s another absolute standout. The track opens with a distinctly ‘90s, instantly memorable riff that feels as though it could have drifted off one of The Smashing Pumpkins’ classic records. The song carries a beautifully nostalgic atmosphere throughout, and everything falls perfectly into place: the production, the songwriting, and especially the vocal melodies, where male and female voices intertwine effortlessly. Add to that a wash of shoegaze guitars, and the result is both immersive and emotionally resonant. Little Brain is shaping up to be a truly significant release!
