MOTEL VOID: You’re from Philadelphia. How would you describe the current music scene there? Do you feel that you’re part of it?

GROCER: Philly has a very large and diverse music scene. There’s really so much cool stuff coming out of Philly right now. We take pride in being from here and participating in the scene!

MOTEL VOID: Your favorite local venues and artists?

GROCER: While there are so many great bands in Philly there are only a handful of great venues. Johnny Brenda’s is our favorite venue to play in Philly. Ortliebs is another great spot for smaller shows. Philly has always been a DIY town and so there are loads of cool house shows and DIY spaces coming and going all the time.
Really there are too many great Philly bands to list, so first three that come to mind are: Golden Apples, Ther, and Expo.

MOTEL VOID: You’ve just released your new single ‘Golden Sedan’. Will it be part of your new record? Could you tell us more about the recording and writing process of this song/album?

GROCER: Yes Golden Sedan will be on the new record! This album was written and recorded last summer. The writing process is pretty collaborative and we are always trying to be more collaborative with our song writing. We recorded all of the songs live in our basement, and then sent the tracks to Nate Amos (Water From Your Eyes, This Is Lorelei) to mix them.

MOTEL VOID: You’ll be touring US in May. How many shows will you play? Any chance of coming to Europe as well?

GROCER: We’ve got 28 shows planned for this tour. We REALLY want to tour in Europe. We started trying to book a Europe tour a few years ago and it proved really difficult. At this point we’re just hoping to get connected with someone who can help us set up shows over there!

MOTEL VOID: Your other plans for 2024?

GROCER: We’re already back to writing again! We’ve been on an alternating EP, LP schedule, but who knows what will come up as we start finishing songs again! Hopefully we’ll be playing lots of shows in 2024 and traveling as well!
